MY STORY

My name is Yafah Franco, a licensed Psychotherapist based in San Francisco - here to guide you through life’s most complex and difficult matters. I am a rare bird. I am a native San Franciscan. My parents were immigrants from Latin America. I was raised in a Spanish speaking household and enjoy conducting my therapy sessions in both English and Spanish.

Psychotherapy is a second career for me. I worked internationally in the garment industry for 15 years before I made the change. It has been a great choice for me as one thing I take much delight in is connecting with people.

In 2009, I graduated from the Wright Institute in Berkeley, CA and chose to focus my internship hours on children, teens and their families. Shortly after completing my practicum hours for licensure, I became pregnant with my daughter.  Being pregnant, having my daughter and being a new mother was overwhelming (a major life changer). During that time, I experienced significant loss in my family. And all of this had a major impact on my personal relationships.  The idea of a walk and talk practice came to me from experiencing the benefits of daily walks with friends during such difficult life-changing moments.  These walks allowed for the opportunity to open up deeply to one another and the feeling of profound satisfaction and gratitude not just for the exercise but for the quality of the conversation. The question came up: Can therapy be done out of the office? After much research and consultation, the answer is a strong: YES. The benefits are outstanding. Exercise has proven benefits on the mind, releasing hormones that reduce stress and ease the mood. This state of mind-body during a conversation of perplexity and confusion showed positive results. I cannot wait to get back outside with my clients and I encourage everyone feeling anxious, down and out of sorts to go outside in the fresh air and take a walk to alleviate those feelings.

Major life changes, parenthood, confronting grief, loss and bereavement, issues in your personal relationships with others, and just being a teen or young adults in our day and age are experiences that can truly benefit from therapy with me.

Your well-being is my number one priority, and I go above and beyond to help all my clients through all their obstacles. Get in touch with me today for more information.
